Turkey receives $9.2 billion net foreign investment in 10-month period of 2018

According to Ministry of Industry and Technology data, 66.4% of equity inflow came from the European Union, with manufacturing leading at $1.3 billion.

Turkey received $9.16 billion in net foreign direct investment from January to October 2018, the Ministry of Industry and Technology announced. According to the official data, net FDI was $1.05 billion in October, while the highest monthly figure of the period was $1.3 billion in June.
Breakdown of equity inflow
In equity investment — the leading item on the direct investment account — direct inflow to Turkey was some $4.8 billion, with 66.4% coming from the European Union.
The top three European sources of direct capital inflow were:
- Netherlands — $578 million
- Italy — $491 million
- Austria — $449 million
Over the same period, $1.06 billion came from Asian countries and $289 million from the United States.
Sector distribution
$1.3 billion of total equity capital entry went into the manufacturing sector, followed by financial intermediation with $931 million.
Including 31 branch offices, a total of 5,934 new foreign-backed firms were established in Turkey, while 90 local companies took on international participants.
In the previous year Turkey attracted $10.94 billion in net foreign direct investment, $7.45 billion of which was equity investment inflow.
